Terrafactor privacy

Last updated: 1 November 2026

Terrafactor is made by randy. Questions or requests: [email protected].

TL;DR: We do not sell your data. It's all gameplay stats and crash reports, for improving the game.

Gameplay stats

On by default. Turn them off any time with Share Gameplay Data, on the first-launch screen or in Options > General. It stops sending straight away; the one thing that still goes is the Steam count of whether it's off (below, under Steam).

They're tied to a random ID made on your computer, never your name or Steam ID (an F9 note you send carries those, below), and cover:

We use them to see where players get stuck, what to balance and what's broken.

Crash reports

Sent when the game crashes, under the same switch: where in the code it crashed, its last error messages, your version and OS. Folder paths with your user name are stripped first. On Windows the crash dump goes too, which can hold small pieces of what the game had in memory. We use them only to fix crashes.

F9 feedback

F9 works only while Share Gameplay Data is on. Nothing is sent until you write a note and send it; a note already sent still goes if you then turn sharing off. A note carries your text, a screenshot, the end of the game's log, where you were in the game, your Steam ID and name, the random install ID your stats use, and whether you ticked Credit me in the patch notes, so we can thank you there. We name you only if you ticked it. Other players' names, chat and your user folder are stripped from the log first.

Steam

Your account, friends and multiplayer connections go through Steam, under Valve's own privacy policy.

Each time you start the game through Steam, it records two stats on your Steam account: that you've played it, and whether Share Gameplay Data is off. They're set whether sharing is on or off, so we can count what share of players turn it off. We only see the totals across all players, never yours. Steam shows them to nobody in the game, the store or the Steam client.

Multiplayer

A server you join, ours or a friend's, keeps your Steam ID with your player in its world, so it knows you when you rejoin. Its logs note who joined, with their Steam ID, name and IP address, and a ban keeps the banned player's Steam ID, name and IP address.

Where it goes

Stats and crash reports: PostHog (USA, through Amazon CloudFront). Windows crash dumps and F9 notes: Cloudflare. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. We don't sell your data, and the game has no ad trackers or cross-site tracking, so it doesn't respond to Do Not Track. None of this is needed to play. Stats and crash reports run on our legitimate interest in fixing the game; F9 notes on your choice to send one.

Your rights

Ask what we hold about you, or to correct, delete or restrict it, or object to it, at [email protected]. For F9 notes include your Steam ID or the note's ID; for stats and crash reports, the install ID (the line starting posthog distinct_id= in the game's log). If what the game collects changes, this page and its date change too.
